Clearanail Fungal Nail Treatment

We are one of the few clinics in North Yorkshire to treat fungal nails using a revolutionary treatment CLEARANAIL.

It is recognised that up to 29% of the population may suffer with fungal nails with the rates increasing with age. Until now the treatment choices are very limited for these difficult to treat, unsightly and sometimes painful nails. Painting the nail with topical solutions for up to a year, takes much perseverance, determination and hope. Taking tablets for 6-9 months is successful for the majority of patients however during your treatment you need regular blood tests and care needs to be taken not to interact with other tablets you may be taking.

CLEARANAIL is a painless treatment that involves micro penetration of the infected nail, very precise 0.4mm holes are made in the nail plate allowing the impermeable structure of the nail to be made permeable, taking seconds to produce these precise holes allow the antifungal spray to reach the problem area quickly and much more effectively.

Clinical trials and our experience using Clearanail has shown the treatment to be quick (about 20 minutes) and painless, the drill is designed to sense when it is through the nail plate and then stops, that’s why this fantastic new treatment is so exciting it offers a quick pain free option to a problem suffered by over a million people in the UK.

Clearanail Fungal nail treatment INCLUDES all of the following; initial treatment with a single use SUM (drill head), topical treatment spray and then 2 follow up appointments at 8 and 16 weeks, photographic record of before, during and after treatment.

Nail Bracing

Nail bracing is a gentle way to halt a worsening of excess nail curvature and in the longer term to correct nails that are susceptible to in-growth. The brace is a fine plastic composite strip that is glued to the nail plate and can be over-painted with nail varnish to affect a better appearance and long term adherence.

While flexible, the resilient composite material attempts to return to its natural flat shape. As a result, this gently lifts the sides of the curved nail. This lifting action normally provides relief from any discomfort as well as training the nail to grow flatter over time. This procedure can be combined with the Minor Wedge Resection treatment discussed below.

Cost: £20 per nail

Toenail Reconstruction

What is toenail reconstruction?

Toenail reconstruction is a cosmetic as well as medical procedure. Toenail reconstruction is performed by a trained and registered Foot Healthcare Practitioner using a specialist gel that is layered either directly onto the nail bed if no nail is present (due to trauma or surgery) so that a brand new nail is created, or, on top of unsightly or misshapen nails so that the nail is more aesthetically pleasing.

How long will the new nail last for?
Nail reconstruction is not a permanent solution. The length of time that the nail reconstruction lasts will vary from person to person. The new nail will generally last between 4 and 6 weeks after which another nail will need to be re-filled or re-applied.

How is toenail reconstruction different to gel nails in a salon?

Toenail reconstruction is a very similar process to gel nails in the way that a gel is layered and then hardened using a UV light. Toenail reconstruction however is very different, and this is where the similarities end. Toenail reconstruction is different to gel nails carried out by beauticians in salons for the following reasons:
– The nail created under toenail reconstruction is described as a prosthetic, it is not an acrylic nail, instead it is designed to look and feel exactly the same as a natural nail
– Toenail reconstruction uses a specialised gel that is flexible, whereas the gel used in salons for fingernails is hard. The gel needs to be flexible to allow the toenail to move with the natural movements of the toe, this is very important as the nail will then last longer and will not ‘lift’
– The gel used has antifungal properties; meaning that any nails which have a fungal infection will be treated whilst wearing the nail
– Nail reconstruction is performed by a fully trained Foot Healthcare Practitioner
– The gel we use is suitable for those who have diabetics
– The nail that is reconstructed will not damage the natural nail or restrict growth, this means that the natural nail is able to grow unaffected.

What happens during toenail reconstruction?
If you have a nail, the practitioner will begin by reducing the nail and removing as much of the diseased nail as possible. The nail is then roughened with the file.
The toenail is cleaned to remove oil and disinfected..   A solution containing an antifungal is applied to the nail plate/nail bed to enhance the bonding of the gel.  The practitioner will then apply the gel in layers, with each layer being hardened under a UV light. As soon as the desired look and thickness has been achieved the nail is then filed and buffed smooth.  Finally, if desired, a high gloss layer can be applied.

A reconstructed toenail may be treated in exactly the same way as you would treat a normal nail, this means that if you wish to you can apply nail varnish and use a nail varnish remover.

How Heat Helps
Though it is usually a very simple form of treatment, heat therapy is actually quite ingenious in the way that it relieves pain and muscle stiffness. When applied to sore areas of the body, heat helps to dilate your blood vessels. This encourages blood to rush to the affected area, flushing out toxins and other wastes. This blood also brings oxygen to the site, which helps to repair soft tissue, encourage muscle tone, and relax muscles contractions.

*Paraffin wax treatments are NOT SUITABLE for some diabetics, varicose veins or abnormalities , vascular disorders, broken or open skin wounds.
